Biodiesel’s effect on Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Renewable fuels, such as biodiesel, can play a role in reducing greenhouse gas and carbon emissions. A CSIRO report from August 2007 concluded that biodiesel made from used cooking oil produces almost 90% less greenhouse gas emissions in contrast to extra-low-sulphur petrodiesel on a total life-cycle basis.

According to The greenhouse and air quality emissions of biodiesel blends in Australia (CSIRO, August 2007), biodiesel blends produce lower tailpipe emissions of chemicals such as carbon monoxide and fine particle matter. Although, oxides of nitrogen may be increased slightly and contribute to smog.

Freedom Fuels policy is to use biodiesel made from Australian-grown feedstocks produced in Australian plants – such as canola oil, tallow and used cooking oil.

Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme

In December 2008 the Australian Government released the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme White Paper - Summary. The report highlights there is no one easy answer to global warming . They suggest that a mix of energy saving , energy reducing, and offsetting activities will reduce our greenhouse emissions. Biofuels are noted as having an important role in this mix.

The National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors have allocated biodiesel a zero CO2 value in comparison to mineral diesel.

Other benefits of using Renew Diesel?
Using Renew Diesel is good for your vehicle, good for your health, good for the environment and good for Australia’s economy. Renew Diesel:

  • Uses a locally grown and manufactured renewable fuel;
  • Meets all the specifications for the Australian diesel standard, protecting your engine and ATO claims where applicable;
  • Strengthens rural economies as well as assisting favourable national trade balance;
  • Improves lubricity, which adds fuel pump life to your engine; and
    Cleans your vehicle’s fuel system to maximize the engine’s power and economy.

Biodiesel and your Vehicle / Equipment Warranty

Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel that runs in any conventional, unmodified diesel engine. Some vehicle and equipment manufacturers have a clear policy on the use of biodiesel which may affect your warranty. Always check your Manufacturer’s recommendations before using biodiesel.

With broad industry acceptance of biodiesel within Europe and the US, for commercial and passenger use, the range of vehicles within the Australian market that are endorsed is constantly increasing.

Freedom Fuels sell Renew Diesel with confidence. Any Renew Diesel sold from retail locations is clearly identified using a label similar to below:
